GrainDorge’s Petit Camembert au Calvados is a mini camembert with a subtly sweet essence. From the Pays d’Auge region in Normandy, France, this creamy delight is soaked in Calvados–a dry apple brandy also made in Normandy.
The bloomy rind is white with a very clean, fruity aroma. I found the inside to be creamy with an earthy, mushroom flavor that is perfectly balanced by sweet apple. It is great to eat with the bloom removed and melted into a cream sauce for pasta or enjoyed on a baguette melted with arugula and roasted turkey breast. Fantabulous! I had some fun making mini camembert en croutes with them–so easy and divinely gooey. Enjoy it with a glass of Chateau La Croix Valiere 2010.
