So You’ve Got a…Syrah / Shiraz

Syrah wines are lush, full-bodied, and loaded with deep berry and complex spicy flavors.  They have gained immense popularity in Australia, where it goes by the name Shiraz.  It is a popular wine found in blends, as it adds elements lacking in other wines.

Syrahs can complement cheese nicely so long as the cheese can stand up to the flavors.  It blends nicely with sheep’s milk cheeses, regardless of how aged they are.  Farmhouse cheddar, such as a Double Gloucester English cheddar, pair well with Syrah also.  Goat Gouda goes well with lighter styled Syrahs, as well as semi-mild blues.  The flavors found in stronger blues tend to overshadow the flavors of the Syrah.

Don’t know where to start?  Ask for your local Vineyard Market Lead and local BK Wine Manager, who would be more than happy to help you select a pairing to your taste!
