October has always been my favorite month out of the year. It’s just the right temperature, the foliage is pretty colors, and Halloween of course! October is also the month that we bring in Calkins Creamery’s Vampire Slayer cheese! Yes, we have this delightfully potent cheese back in limited quantities.
This cheddar style cheese has a blend of garlic, onion, paprika, and ginger stirred into the curds before pressing it into eight-pound wheels. This leaves Vampire Slayer as a nice, white cheese with a beautiful red-orange marbling contrasted again a black wax.
Beware, Vampire Slayer really earns its name! The blend of herbs makes this cheese a deliciously powerful one, and should be enjoyed in the company of humans only (sorry vampires!). Makes a unique addition to any cheese board, but is also delicious on hamburgers, grated into mashed potatoes, and grilled cheeses!
