October’s Cheese of the Month comes to us from beautiful Point Reyes, California, just a few miles north of San Fransisco. Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Co. began churning out wheels of Original Blue in August 2000, though the farm was in the family for many years prior.
Made of raw cow’s milk and aged for at least six months, Original Blue is made with microbial rennet, which makes it suitable for vegetarians. It has a slight sweetness to it, finishing with a medium blue flavor. While this blue isn’t as strong as some blues out there on the market, it is not mild either. And even though it has a crumbly consistency, it is still creamy, making this the perfect pick for a blue cheese lover!
