Happy National Goat Cheese Month!
Officially, August is National Goat Cheese Month, so what better way to celebrate than to give a shout out to some of our favorite chevre!
When the thermometer starts to climb, why eat a heavy blue or washed-rind cheese when you can go for something light and fresh? Start your goat cheese endeavor with some Cypress Grove Chevre cheeses! Try Purple Haze, a delicious fresh chevre with lavender and fennel–light, tangy, and floral! Are you a truffle fan? Then Truffle Tremor is the goat cheese for you! With other options such as Humboldt Fog, Psychedillic, and Sgt. Pepper, you can’t go wrong with any Cypress Grove cheese!
Another favorite creamery specializing in goat’s milk cheese is Nettle Meadow Farm in upstate New York. They’re flagship cheese, Kunik, is a creamy, mold-ripened goat’s milk cheese with just a hint of cow cream making it smoother than many goat’s milk cheeses. They also offer a variety of chevre spreads with mouth-watering flavors of horseradish or lemon, black pepper, and herbs–amongst a few others!
Vermont Butter & Cheese Creamery is another favorite with us. My personal favorite is Bonne Bouche–an ash-ripened goat’s milk cheese that can be eaten fresh, yet gets better as it ages! There’s also Bijiou, Coupole, and heck, let’s throw Cremont in there for fun! So many tasty options!
