Silver Goat Chevre – March Cheese of the Month

Silver Goat ChevreAre you a goat cheese lover like myself? Well, this month’s featured cheese is a must try! If not, perhaps this is the cheese to get started with. For some reason I have noticed that a lot of customers are reluctant to experience goat cheese for the first time. I am not sure why this is but it comes up more then you would expect. Whenever I am faced with someone who is fearful of goat’s milk, I really encourage them to give it a taste. Goat cheese is actually really good for you. It tends to be lower in fat, calories, and cholesterol compared to that of other cheeses. It is richer in both calcium and protein and has other nutritional values that occur naturally within the milk. It is also smoother on the digestive system so even people who are lactose intolerant are able to enjoy goat cheeses. Certainly the Silver Goat Chevre Pyramide is a great cheese to start with for anyone who wants to explore the world of goat cheese.

Silver Goat is a relatively new creamery founded by three partners in France in 1989. This particular product is imported from France so that it is able to uphold the time-honored French tradition. The cheese comes packaged in a unique hexagonal container and, if you are careful enough, the cheese can retain the shape of the pyramid. The cheese has a pleasantly sweet aroma with a creamy, spreadable texture. The flavor is extremely approachable with tangy citrus notes. It would go great in my Easy Goat Spread recipe or crumbled into a salad. It pairs perfectly with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc or an ice cold wheat beer.
